Graduation Information for Students

Undergraduate Students

The College of Arts & Sciences will hold its Recognition Ceremony in historic Francis Olympic Field on Sunday, May 12 at 8:30 a.m. This is a rain or shine event. 

At the Arts & Sciences Recognition Ceremony undergraduate students will be called individually by name to process across the stage.

Students must declare their intent to graduate in May 2024 by Friday, December 22, 2023, in WebSTAC. Your intent to graduate will also serve as your "registration" to take part in the A&S Recognition Ceremony. If you have questions about filing an intent to graduate, please reach out to your four-year advisor.

Undergraduate students who have graduated in December 2023, and intend to graduate in August 2024 are generally able to participate in the May 2024 ceremony. Please e-mail artsci-asrecog@email.wustl.edu about participating.

Graduate Students

The Arts & Sciences Hooding and Recognition Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 3 p.m. in Graham Chapel. The Hooding & Recognition Ceremony recognizes the accomplishments of those who have completed a PhD or master’s degree in departments and programs in Arts & Sciences. Students who have an expected graduation date on or before August 2024 are invited to participate.

Please complete this form no later March 31, 2024, to confirm your participation and reserve your regalia through the bookstore. Graduates may invite one faculty member to participate in the hooding ceremony (your hooder). You will need to enter your hooder's information in the registration form, if your faculty member is unable to participate in the hooding ceremony, the Office of Graduate Studies will have a faculty member at the ceremony to hood you. Graduating students may include their children during the hooding ceremony, please indicate this on the RSVP form so we can plan appropriately.

The Office of Graduate Studies will host a reception for students and their guests immediately after the Hooding & Recognition ceremony on Bowles Plaza. There will be light refreshments, beverage options, and a photo booth. Please plan to join us, if you are able. 

Additionally, due to space limitations in Graham Chapel, we are asking each graduate student to limit the amount of in-person guests at the ceremony to four (4) per graduate. We will livestream the ceremony in Wrighton Hall, Room 300, so if you have a large group of people planning to attend the ceremony we ask that you plan to have guests over the limit plan to watch from there. All guests are welcome to attend the reception following the ceremony. 

Please note that the Roy and Diana Vagelos Division of Biology and Biomedical Science (DBBS) will have a separate Hooding and Recognition ceremony on Friday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the 560 Music Center. All graduating DBBS students should attend the DBBS Hooding ceremony, graduate students from all other A&S departments and programs should register and attend the hooding ceremony in Graham Chapel.

Undergraduate Students

We will have photographers on hand to take photos as you cross the stage. More details about signing up to receive your free photo proofs will be made available to you during the spring semester.

Graduate Students

Kabance Photo Services will be on hand to take three photographs of each participant. More information for signing up to receive your free photo proofs will be made available to you email during the spring semester.

Regalia

All students participating in any of the A&S graduation ceremonies or the all-university Commencement ceremony must wear regalia. You can order your regalia online from the campus bookstore. The deadline to reserve regalia is April 21, 2024.

Line Up for A&S Ceremonies

Undergraduate Students

Students can begin checking in and lining up for the procession, in regalia, at 7:45 a.m., on Sunday, May 12. The procession to Francis Field will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and you need to check in the Edison Family Courtyard (outside of the DUC) before the procession starts, so please make sure you are on time. After check-in you will line-up by department. Double majors can walk with whichever major they prefer. Please review the full list of where departments and programs will line up so that you can know where to go after checking in and receiving your card.

Students may not bring bags of any type onto Francis Olympic Field during the Arts & Sciences undergraduate ceremony or the all-university commencement ceremony.

Graduate Students

Students and hooders need to check-in and line-up, in regalia, in Holmes Lounge, by 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10. 
 

Faculty and Non-Student Ceremony Participants

Faculty members and any other non-student participants who are invited to participate in the A&S ceremonies will be communicated with about their participation via e-mail. Additional information about line-up and timing will be circulated via e-mail. 

All ceremony participants will need to wear regalia. Faculty members who do not own regalia can rent regalia through the campus bookstore. Additional information about regalia will be posted during the spring semester. The deadline to reserve regalia is April 21, 2024.
